Order in the Court Students Take On West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette

Mr. Fumusa’s ‘Order in the Court’ Afterschool Exploration class tried the famous case of the Jehovah’s Witness students who refused to say the mandated Pledge of Allegiance according to school rules in 1943—West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette. Presiding over the case was the Honorable Christina Klineman, a judge of the Marion County Superior Court. A jury of PT staff, faculty, parents, and alumni made the final decision based on the Lower and Middle School students' arguments.
