Last week the College Counseling Office was pleased to welcome guest speaker, Nii Kpakpo Abrahams, Senior Director of Student Experience and Engagement at Butler University to speak with all interested students in grades 9 - 12 regarding the importance of finding community in the college search and matriculation process.
When researching colleges, there are many factors to consider - academics, geographic location, student life, and financial fit. Finding community within a prospective college is also an essential factor. This part of the college process is deeply personal and may often include factors such as: race, ethnicity, country of origin, gender and/or sexual identity, religion, geographic diversity of students’ home states, physical and mental health, socioeconomic status, and family background/exposure to higher education.
Nii spoke with students about how they can research a college, campus culture, and an institution’s commitment to belonging and how students can connect further in the community once they’ve matriculated.
Thank you to Nii for an engaging and informative discussion!
