Debate Team Begins Season with "Women's Words Matter" and Fishers HS Tournaments

Over the last two weeks, the Park Tudor Debate Team has begun its season of rhetorical dueling by participating in the first two tournaments sponsored by the Indiana High School Forensics Association. On Saturday, October 30, girls on the team were proud to participate in the "Women's Words Matter" tournament at Westfield High School sponsored by the Girl Scouts of America. At that tournament, Hannah Warren and Kate Weigand placed 3rd and 6th respectively in Lincoln-Douglas (LD) debate, arguing whether workers in the United States should have an unconditional right to strike. In the same event, novice LD debater Mischa Mallbris went 2-1 and placed third. This past Saturday at the Fishers High School speech & debate tournament, Mischa followed her performance the previous week by going an undefeated 4-0 against more than 20 competitors to take the first-place ribbon in the same category. Congrats to Mischa as these were her first two debates ever. Ibrahim Mohsin and Jathan Pai also did very well in novice LD in their first-ever debates, going 3-1 and placing 5th and 9th; varsity debater Aditi Dey also went 3-1 and placed 10th.

Varsity public forum (PF) debaters Clara Skovronsky & Pooja Krishnan also did very well in both tournaments, placing 3rd at Westfield (2-1) and 6th at Fishers (3-1), while the PF pair of Sahas Mallela & Sanjana Adig placed 5th at Westfield (2-1) and Kate Fryburg & Audrey Wang placed 9th at Fishers (2-2). In their first tournament ever, freshmen Allison Xu and Emily Wang went 2-1 and placed 3rd at the "Women's Words" event. The PF debaters argued a resolution that asked if the federal government should implement greater regulations on cryptocurrency.
