Commencement 2019 to Feature Martha Hoover as Keynote Speaker

A parent of three Park Tudor alumni (Sarah Hoover ‘02, Rachael Hoover Lekic ‘04 and David Hoover ‘08) and member of the Park Tudor Board of Trustees, Patachou Inc. Founder Martha Hoover operates a successful and norm-busting collection of restaurants - Café Patachou, Petite Chou Bistro, Napolese Pizzeria, Public Greens and Bar One Fourteen. In 1989, the year Cafe Patachou opened, the use of premium ingredients and partnering with local vendors and farmers was unheard of and today, Patachou Inc. supports more Indiana family farms than all the other restaurants in Indianapolis combined, and has been recognized nationally for it’s bar-setting workplace practices and culture of inclusivity.

In 2013, Hoover created The Patachou Foundation to feed healthy meals to food insecure children in Indianapolis. The Foundation started small, adhered to smart growth strategies, and made an immediate impact. In keeping with Patachou’s 2020 vision, it is also a radically different and radically better organization that to date has served over 120,000 healthy, nutritious meals have been served to children in our community living with pervasive food insecurity.
Hoover has been nominated for Restaurateur of the Year by the James Beard Foundation five years in a row. Food and Wine named her “One of The Most Innovative Women in Food and Drink;" and Eater named her “Empire Builder of the Year." She has been profiled in Vogue Magazine, quoted in the New York Times, and awarded both the Centric Excellence in Innovation Award and the MyDomaine Womaneer Award. Café Patachou was recently named one of Restaurant Hospitality’s Top 25 Coolest Concepts, and Patachou Inc. was named among “19 great restaurants in the US to work for” by Food and Wine.

Other speakers at this year’s Commencement ceremony include Ryan Gershman ‘04, who will bring greetings from the alumni; Student Council President-Elect, Adam Katz ‘20, who will bring greetings from the student body; and Global Scholars Program Director, Jane Sidey, who will bring greetings from the faculty.
