Middle School Marks Water Week
Middle School Marks Water Week

Water Week continues this year in the Middle School. Joining forces with charity:water, PT's Middle School has once again committed to funding a well project in a developing nation. Through Water Week, we seek to educate our students about a serious global issue and help them develop a greater appreciation for everyday resources. The incredible effort of Park Tudor Middle School students resulted in fully funded well projects in Ethiopia in 2014-2015 and in Uganda in 2015-2016.

Each day throughout Water Week, students will learn more about water through classroom lessons and activities. On Wednesday during Advisory, Middle School students connected with the charity:water headquarters via Google Hangout to learn more about the water crisis and how this organization is helping.

On Thursday, the sixth grade welcomed its first-grade buddies from Avondale Meadows and led water-themed activities with them.

Friday was "Dry Day." Water and facilities in the Middle School were unavailable for use; students and faculty were asked to use the bathroom facilities and water fountains in the gym. Additionally on Dry Day, students carry two one-gallon milk jugs filled with water when walking to the gym. The milk jugs are representative of the much heavier jerry cans that are carried several miles daily to retrieve water in many developing nations. This day is designed to raise awareness and help students develop empathy.

As a part of the Water Week fundraising efforts, the SLUGS (Student Leadership Group) has held a cookie sale all week. In addition, each grade level will join together to participate in one fundraising project as their class contribution to the effort, and there will be a Water Walk held later in April to raise money.

Scott Harrison, Founder and CEO of charity:water, was recently in Indianapolis for a speaker series and left these words of thanks and encouragement for our students.
