Embarking on the 2018-19 School Year
By Gareth Vaughan, Head of School

As we embark on the 2018-2019 school year, it is a great privilege to be able to greet our new families as they become part of the Park Tudor community. As a relative newcomer with one year under my belt, I can testify to the welcoming nature of PT. Looking ahead, I feel a great sense of optimism for what the new year will bring. My first year as Head of School was a period to carefully study and learn about Park Tudor. As I begin my second year, I feel a sense of confidence and excitement about the future course of the school; specifically:

  • Our PT2020 strategic plan has been reimagined and will be shared with all of you shortly.
  • Planning is underway for the visit of our ISACS accreditation team in early October, which is always an important step in the development of a school’s vision and direction.
  • The process of selecting an architecture firm for the school’s new campus master plan is in its final stages, and plans are being drawn up for some immediate renovations in the Upper School.
  • A renewed focus on updating the buildings is coupled with an intense examination of the academic program from JK through grade 12. New and returning faculty have shown incredible commitment in the opening meetings to updating and energizing the learning environment at all levels, guided by best practices and informed by research.
  • A new and robust communications and marketing plan is being developed to put Park Tudor front and center in people’s minds when they think about high-quality independent education.

We’ve had a busy summer on campus, with our hard-working maintenance crew overseeing the repair or replacement of large areas of concrete and paved areas, and the repair of roof dormers. Important work is still ongoing, including resurfacing of the tennis courts and Lower School play areas, planned to be completed as soon as possible.

As the school year begins, you will notice some changes in security procedures, including which doors you can use to gain entry to the school. These changes may cause some initial difficulties as people adjust, but they are motivated by our commitment to security and a desire to limit the number of points of entry into the buildings. A full range of drills will be practiced in the first few weeks of school so that we can all develop an instinctive understanding of what to do should an emergency occur. We will be communicating the schedule for these drills in the coming days.

Our highly qualified team of administrators, faculty and staff look forward to working with you to ensure the best learning experience for your children. We are very excited by the strength, quality and experience of our newly hired administrators, teachers, assistants, and staff members. We are committed to making 2018-2019 a great school year!
