Women's Equality Advancement Club Supports Julian Center
Cassie Dull

Park Tudor's Upper School Women's Equality Advancement (WEA) club was formed one year ago in response to the increased awareness and discussion around gender in our society. WEA seeks to "create a safe, intelligent space in which to discuss current events relating to women's rights, the history of gender roles, and the role gender plays in the PT community while providing opportunities for involvement in local organizations that benefit women."

An active club, one of their goals has been responding to the need for supporting women in the Indianapolis community who are seeking assistance. This year, the students of WEA began providing aid for battered women and children of the Julian Center by collecting and delivering boxes of sanitary items for women and diapers for children. The Julian Center's mission is "to empower survivors of domestic and sexual violence and end the generational cycle of violence."

Maya Pasic, PT senior and active WEA club member, says

"Creating WEA has been so important to me. We've tried to create not only a safe space for girls in this school to talk and share their experiences but also an organization that encourages the community to look outside themselves and help women in need in the local and international communities."

Park Tudor will be the location for the Julian Center's upcoming event, Julian Jam. This benefit will feature singer/songwriter, Park Tudor alumna and Lower School parent, Katherine Deane Nagy '98. The Julian Jam will take place in the Wood Room on Tuesday, May 23 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Drinks and small bites will be served. More information and event details.
