Upper School Director's Note - July 15, 2020

Dear Upper School Parents,

On behalf of the Upper School, welcome to the 2020-21 school year. We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our students back on campus this fall. After 5 months away, we are ready to be together again! Of course, we will do so in the safest manner possible. You will find information related to COVID-19 safety protocols and procedures here.

We know that some pieces of this school year will look and feel different for our students. That said, we are committed to preserving the essential components of a Park Tudor education:

  • knowing our students as individuals
  • meeting students’ academic, social, and emotional needs
  • helping students discover and grow areas of talent and passion
  • creating space for respectful dialogue and the sharing of ideas

The partnership between school and family is critical to the success of our students. We look forward to working with you to help our students grow and learn.

Below is important information for the start of the school year.There will be a second note to follow on August 1st which will outline drop-off/pick-up procedures, parking for US students, and any updated information regarding safety protocols.

August is right around the corner and I hope the last few weeks of summer will provide you with the opportunity to rest and recharge.

We can’t wait to welcome our Panthers back home!

Revised Daily Schedule:
Construction on campus, as well as protocols in place for health screening in the morning, have caused us to stagger our drop-off times for the divisions. Middle and Upper School will begin at 8:30 a.m. We will continue to have our late start on Wednesday, but will begin at 9:15 a.m. Classes will be five minutes shorter to accommodate the later arrival times.

 

Schedule Release/Book Store:
Preliminary schedules are now available in Veracross. They do not include teachers or class times, but do reflect the courses in which students are enrolled. Should you have questions about schedules, please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Shari Sutton, who is our US schedule coordinator. Under “Student Links”, click on a gray button titled “US Course Change Request Form”. You will be directed to an online form which will be submitted. Requests will be taken in the order in which they are received. Though every effort will go into accommodating change requests, please keep in mind that schedule changes, at this point in time, are often difficult and may not be possible. The other courses in which a student has enrolled or the enrollment of a course itself may limit availability and fluidity. Students will receive an email notifying them of the status of the request within five business days subsequent to the form submission. Again, should you have questions, Ms. Sutton welcomes the opportunity to speak with students and parents about course selections.

I anticipate official schedules being released next week. The eCampus bookstore will open at that time as well.

*For those enrolled in band/choral classes - Due to the guidelines for these specialized courses, we are currently creating a flexible curriculum which allows students to have experiences in these areas of fine arts which lie outside of the explicit playing of their instruments and singing. That said, we want to keep the “footprint” of these courses in students’ schedules so that we may transition back to performance-based instruction when it is safe to do so.

 

Campus Improvements:
If you haven’t been on campus lately, you’ll be in for quite a surprise! Our PE/Athletic facilities have come down and the site is being prepared for the new building. We have made alternative arrangements for athletic practices and competitions which are held indoors. Coaches will communicate that information directly with players and families. We look forward to completion of the building in the fall of 2021. We have a second project underway as well. Our auditorium lobby and restrooms are being renovated/expanded. For the safety of our community, construction fencing has been installed around both sites and access to these areas is strictly prohibited.

 

Freshman and Senior Retreats:
Due to the current recommendations and guidelines around field trips, we are unable to take our freshman and senior on their annual retreats. We are disappointed that we cannot engage in these traditions. We will re-evaluate the possibility of an alternative field trip as the year goes on.

 

Athletics:
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic during the 2019-20 school year and the continued stress on the medical community, the Indiana High School Athletic Association, Inc. will waive the provisions of Rule 3-10 for the 2020-21 school year. Effective immediately, valid physical and consent forms presented to member schools on behalf of eligible students during the 2019-20 school year shall be valid during the upcoming 2020-21 school year. Transfer students moving from one member school to another member school must provide a copy of their valid 2019-2020 Pre-Participation Physical and Consent Form to the Receiving School in order to be eligible under Rule 3-8. Incoming ninth grade students with a valid IHSAA Pre-Participation Physical and Consent Form completed and signed after April 1, 2019 will also be eligible to compete during the 2020-2021 athletic season. Any athlete not having a valid IHSAA pre-participation examination physical form on file from the 2019-2020 scholastic year is required to have a valid Pre-Participation Physical and Consent Form completed prior to eligibility and competition. This includes any student-athlete coming from an out-of-state school to an IHSAA member school or any student who did not participate in sports during the 2019-2020 school year. The student must have a valid Pre-Participation Physical and Consent Form completed on the official IHSAA form prior to eligibility:
