Position Purpose
The Security Officer serves as a crucial liaison between the Director of Safety and Security and law enforcement agencies. The primary responsibility of the security guard is to ensure the safety and security of students, faculty, and staff within the Park Tudor campus. The Security Guard plays a vital role in fostering positive relationships between law enforcement, students, and the community while promoting a safe and conducive learning environment. The hours for the position are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, unless other hours are directed based on the needs of the School. This position reports to the Director of Safety and Security. 

Essential Functions

  • Assist the Director of Safety and Security with the development and implementation of the School Safety Plan.
  • Maintain a visible presence on school grounds to deter potential threats and ensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Patrol school premises regularly to identify and address security concerns or unauthorized activities.
  • Perform routine checks of all parking lots and buildings on campus.
  • Assist with facilitating vehicle traffic routes throughout the campus to maintain safety during drop off and pick up of students. 
  • Assist the Director of Safety and Security with scheduled access and key control for buildings during and after school events.
  • Manage armed officers at after-school events.
  • Analyze security footage as needed.
  • Respond promptly to incidents such as fights, disturbances, or emergencies, and take appropriate action to resolve them in accordance with established protocols. Notify all necessary parties and file an incident report when required.
  • Assist Wellness Center Staff in overseeing the Wellness Center, particularly in busy times, to ensure safety in the building.
  • Build positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, and parents through regular interactions and outreach efforts.
  • Participate in community events, school assemblies, and educational programs to promote safety awareness and crime-prevention initiatives.
  • Assist transportation with vehicle refueling daily.
  • Assist the maintenance department when available or directed by the School.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.  

Qualification Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma/GED is required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: 2-5 years of relevant security, police or military-related work experience

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience in the following areas is desired: security and fire inspection procedures, alarm systems and management of those systems, which will be covered during training. 
  • Ability to assess situations accurately for the function of good decision-making. 
  • Verbal and written communications skills. 
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and demonstrate leadership and supervisory skills and also be able to work in a team environment.
  • Must be able to lift, twist, bend, climb, and carry up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with the Park Tudor community and guests. 
  • Must be able to work schedules necessary to maintain property and accommodate school functions all year round, including work on a rotating Saturday schedule.
  • Professionalism with and amongst all constituencies.
  • Ability to perform other non-grounds related maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • A valid Indiana driver’s license and good driving record. 
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and drug screen at the time of employment and throughout employment.
  • Willingness to engage in all aspects of the Park Tudor community while promoting and supporting the mission statement and core values.
