Mr. Ayres has served as Academic Dean since 2003 and was Middle School director from 1997-2003. He taught fifth grade at Park Tudor for nine years before moving to the Middle School, serving as Middle School athletic director for three years during that time. Prior to that, he was a teacher for 16 years and Middle School Head from 1980-1987 at Orchard School. He holds a bachelor's degree in English and economics as well as a master's in English and school administration from Butler University. He has served on a number of school accreditation teams in the Midwest for the Independent School Association of the Central States.

Dr. Banya holds a Ph.D. in science education (chemistry) from the University of Southern Mississippi, a master’s in science education physical science from Eastern Illinois University, a B.A. in Jewish studies from the University of Judaism, and a science education diploma from the Kenya Science Teachers’ College. He taught chemistry and physics at Miss Porter’s School in Farmington, CT; chemistry at De La Salle Institute in Chicago; and chemistry and physics at St. Martin de Porres Academy in Chicago. He also taught science at North Chicago Community High School and the Nguvia Boys’ High School in Embu, Kenya. Dr. Banya has served as a soccer coach at many of the schools where he has taught. He is a member of a number of national and international science organizations and author of “Study of Factors Affecting Attitudes of Young Female Students Toward Chemistry at the High School Level” and his autobiography "Out of the Village: Overcoming Barriers."

Mrs. Beattie graduated with a B.S. degree from the University of Evansville. She also holds a M.A. from Indiana University. Additional hours of study have been at Butler University, University of Indianapolis, Herron School of Art and numerous professional development opportunities. She served as Art Department chair at Park Tudor from 1990-2000. Previous teaching assignments include positions at public middle and high schools in the Indianapolis area. Barbara has won several art competition awards and has extensive experience with gifted and talented education and served as a consultant and teacher for Advanced Placement Studio Art for the College Board. She also was an evaluation team member for the North Central Association and the Independent Schools Association of the Central States. Most recently, Barbara and three other upper school faculty members spent a week at a Service Learning Institute in Vermont. The knowledge gained at the institute will be shared with the PT community in hopes to make our campus more sustainable and a leader in local service learning education.

A graduate of Purdue University with a B.S. degree in mathematics, Mr. Chamberlin also holds a master's degree in education from Indiana University. He previously was a senior mathematics instructor at Culver Academies and a mathematics instructor at Fernley High School in Fernley, NV. He is a recipient of Culver's Spivey Award for excellence in teaching. At Culver, he served as counselor of the school's winning academic bowl team and as head varsity football coach, water ski instructor and ski club sponsor. He is a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Indiana Football Coaches Association. He serves as Park Tudor’s varsity football assistant coach.

Ms. Cleveland teaches Upper School English and is the advisor for The Park Tudor Tribune, the Upper School newspaper. She was a member of the English Department faculty at Butler University from 1994-1999, where served as senior lecturer and led writing workshops and seminars. She holds a B.S. degree in education from Indiana University and a master's degree in English literature from Butler. Before joining the Butler University faculty, she taught English at Scecina High School, Brownsburg High School and Lourdes High School in Chicago. At Lourdes, she served as the student newspaper adviser.

Mr. Dammeier holds a B.S. from Indiana University in biology education with endorsements in physical science and general science, and a master's in education from Indiana Wesleyan University in curriculum and instruction. While teaching at Lawrence Central High School from 2002 to 2005, he led the freshman mentor program, taught AP and IB biology and genetics, and was honored as an influential teacher by a senior academic excellence recipient. Mr. Dammeier has also taught biology at Crawfordsville High School and Logansport High School. His extracurricular activities have included coaching high school football, softball and baseball, as well as serving as an IHSAA basketball official. He currently teaches biology and coaches JV baseball. He is a member of the National Association of Biology Teachers, National Science Teachers Association, and Hoosier Association of Science Teachers.

Mr. Dewart, who teaches Advanced Biology and Environmental Science, attended Wabash College and holds a B.S. degree from Eastern Kentucky University and a master's degree from the University of Montana. In the community, he serves on the citizen steering committee that advises the City of Indianapolis in its efforts to update its Comprehensive Land Use Plan. He also chairs the Sierra Club's Parks Committee in Central Indiana.

Dr. Sven Dubie joined Park Tudor in 2009 with a record as a distinguished history professor at both the university and independent school level. In addition to teaching AP U.S. History and Western Civilizations, he also assists with the Speech and Debate program. Dr. Dubie earned his Ph.D. in U.S. History from the University of Delaware, as well as a MALS degree in American Studies from Wesleyan University and bachelor's degrees (magna cum laude) in history and German from Colby College in Waterville, Maine. Previously, Dr. Dubie has been a history lecturer and visiting assistant professor at John Carroll University in Ohio, and a middle and upper school history teacher at Jacksonville Episcopal High School and Poughkeepsie Day School. He is the author of numerous essays and articles published in history publications.

Mr. Eckel coordinates the work of the three school counselors, the Middle and Upper School academic deans, and the three college counselors. He holds a B.A. from Colby College and Ed.M. with a concentration in guidance and counseling from Harvard University. He also has completed graduate work at Yale Divinity School. He served as director of college counseling at the Kinkaid School in Houston for 10 years and previously was head of upper school and director of college counseling at the Ransom Everglades School in Miami. Mr. Eckel also has worked as a director of guidance and counseling and as a guidance counselor at high schools in Pennsylvania. He is an active member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and has presented at a number of regional and national college counseling conferences.

A graduate of Park Tudor predecessor Tudor Hall and 2003 recipient of the Park Tudor Distinguished Alumni Award, Mrs. Everett holds a B.A. from Carroll College and M.S.W. from Indiana University. Previous to her current school position, she served Park Tudor as director of communications and alumni relations and as associate director of admissions. She also has been cheerleading sponsor, faculty sponsor of the Sociology Club, co-director of the Middle School productions from 1998-2002, faculty Annual Fund liaison, and has served as Park Tudor’s Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS) Evaluation Chair in 1987 and ISACS Evaluation Vice-Chair in 1992. She previously served on the Park Tudor Alumni Association Board of Directors. Before coming to Park Tudor, Mrs. Everett was associate director of admissions for Carroll College (WI) and director of volunteers for homebound seniors at the Indianapolis Senior Citizen's Center. She has served on a textbook review committee for a national textbook company and is the author of a workbook, "Doing Sociology." She has collaborated with POLIS Center in a pilot program which engaged high school students as social researchers and is active in various committees. She enjoys tennis, golf and singing in the Chancel Choir and Chamber Ensemble at Northminster Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Farlow holds bachelor's and master's degrees in music education from Butler University, where she studied viola with Zanis Dumpis and conducting with Jackson Wiley. A freelance musician and member of Indianapolis Musicians Local No. 3, Mrs. Farlow performs professionally as violist with the Mannheim Quartet and violinist with the Village String Quartet. She has been principal violist of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis since 1986. Mrs. Farlow is an active member of the Indiana Music Educators Association, has served as treasurer of the Indiana chapter of the American String Teachers Association, and is the educational liaison on the board of the Ensemble Music Society. She has been a presenter for several IMEA conventions, and she frequently shares her expertise as guest conductor for orchestra festivals in other school systems.

Mr. Fumusa holds a bachelor's degree in music and a master of arts in religious studies from Indiana University. At Park Tudor he teaches Upper School ethics as well as serving as dean of students and directing the school’s summer school program. Mr. Grayson has directed more than 65 productions of plays and musicals, more than half of them at Park Tudor School and others at North Montgomery H.S., Garrett Jr./Sr. H.S., New Castle H.S., and for Sugar Creek Players and the Vanity Theatre in Indiana. He has appeared in a variety of productions in local theatres and dinner theatres, as well as in radio and television commercials. He received his bachelor's degree with majors in English, speech, and theatre and a minor in Biblical literature from Cedarville College. He received his master's degree in theatre from Indiana University where he studied theatre theory, criticism and history with Oscar G. Brockett and jazz vocal music with Eileen Farrell. He also studied at Indiana State and Purdue Universities. Additionally, while attending American University in Washington D.C., he studied modern dance with the Erik Hawkins Dance Company, directing with Leo Shapiro, and acting with Maria Preszjeski, a student of Jerzy Grotowski. Mrs. Grinkmeyer has more than 25 years of experience as a guidance counselor and social studies teacher. She has been a leadership facilitator at the National Association of Student Councils National Leadership Camps in Castine, Maine and Lake Tahoe, and coordinates Park Tudor's freshman and senior retreats as well as Upper School leadership retreats. Before joining Park Tudor as Upper School counselor in 1999, she was a guidance counselor at North Central High School, where she was named Teacher of the Year in 1998. She previously was a guidance counselor and student council sponsor at Western Boone Junior-Senior High School and taught social studies at Plainfield Junior-Senior High School and Crispus Attucks High School.

He has worked with a team of colleagues from other private schools to establish the Spoleto Summer Study Abroad Program for students in the arts.

While in South Bend he coached Mishawaka Marian's boys' and girls' tennis teams for six and five years respectively. He also coached the boys' basketball team at Stanley Clark for five years. For more than 20 summers he has worked as the head tennis professional at Tippecanoe Lake Country Club in Leesburg, Ind.

Mr. Johnson holds a B.A. in history from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, and an Master's degree in East Asian studies from Indiana University. Mr. Johnson spent six years in Japan, where he held fellowships at Tenri University in Nara and the Urasenke Institute in Kyoto. He taught U.S. history, world history and English at the University of Oklahoma and at Kansai University of Foreign Studies in Osaka, Japan. He also traveled in South Korea as a guest of the Korea Foundation and Yonsei University Korean Studies Workshop. He has studied art and architectural history throughout Europe. Among his awards are a U.S. Title VI Foreign Language and Areas Study Fellowship for 1996-97 and a Fulbright-Hays fellowship to South Africa in the summer of 2001. Mr. Johnson has published several articles, reviews and translations and has presented at numerous conferences. In addition to participating in several university summer seminars, he also spends his summers teaching a graduate seminar for Indiana University's East Asian Studies Center. Dr. Lee-Thompson holds a B.A. degree in English literature from Fu Jen University in Taiwan, a M.A. degree in applied linguistics from Indiana University and a Ph.D. in language education from Indiana University. She joined Park Tudor in 2008 to direct the school's Chinese Studies program. She was previously an assistant professor of Chinese at Butler University and director of Butler’s Summer Chinese Language Program. Before joining the Butler faculty in 2000, she taught Chinese and English as a Second Language courses at IUPUI and was an associate instructor in the Department of East Asian Languages & Cultures at Indiana University. She also has been a teacher trainer at the English Language School International in Taipei. She has done extensive research on teaching Chinese to non-native speakers and her work has been published in a number of language journals. In addition, she has designed many Chinese language and culture workshops and courses. Dr. Lee-Thompson, who has led three student-study trips to China and Taiwan while at Butler, has been honored with several university awards for outstanding teaching.

Mr. Malcom attended Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine and was a student at the "Sciences Po," the Institut d'Etudes Politiques in Paris, where he earned the Certificat d'Etudes Politiques. Following his studies at Bowdoin, he spent a year in France, earning a master's degree in French from New York University. When Señor Malcom first came to Park Tudor, he taught French, managed yearbook finances and was an advisor to several classes. From 1979-1981 he was an adjunct faculty member of Butler University as a French teacher. Before coming to Park Tudor, he taught French at Phillips Exeter Academy and The Hotchkiss School. For many years, he has presented a workshop on teaching Spanish to dyslexic students at the Dyslexia Institute of Indiana's annual "Survival Saturday." He has presented several workshops at the Indiana Foreign Language Teachers conference and one on Cuba at the Central States world meeting in 2003. He was secretary of the Indiana Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese for six years, vice president for two years, president for two years and its 2004 Spanish Teacher of the Year. He also was chosen Foreign Language Teacher of the Year 2004 by the Indiana Foreign Language Teachers Association. He is a member of the "Sociedad Honoraria de Profesores de Español."

Mr. Math is the science department chair, teaches chemistry, and is the head varsity girls volleyball coach at Park Tudor. He is a graduate of Indiana University, where he participated on two Big Ten Championship Swim Teams. Previously, Mr. Math was a teacher with the Central Indiana Honors Science Academy held at Park Tudor and was the co-director of the Honors Science Academy at IUPUI. Mr. Math also taught chemistry at Clinton Prairie Jr./Sr. High and Warren Central High School. He has been a presenter at the State and Regional Science Teacher Conventions and has worked with the Purdue University Instrumentation Van for high school teachers. He has also coached the middle and high school boys and girls swim teams at Warren Central and at Park Tudor.

Ms. McAlear received a B.A. in history from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst; a M.A. in Asian history from New York University; and attended Shanghai University in Shanghai, China; Kyoto University in Kyoto, Japan; and Shreemati Athibai Damodar Thakersui College in Bombay, India. Before joining Park Tudor, Ms. McAlear taught history in several private schools throughout the country, including Immaculate High School in Seattle, WA; Catlin Gabel in Portland, OR; Storm King School in Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY; and Colorado Springs School in Colorado Springs, CO. She led Upper School student trips to China in 2007 and 2009 and to Egypt and Jordan in 2008, and has traveled throughout the world doing research to enhance her classroom teaching.

Dr. McDougall teaches biology and environmental science in the Upper School Science Department and is an assistant coach for the girls soccer team. He also serves the Upper School as Associate Academic Dean, working closely with the Senior class. Dr. McDougall earned his undergraduate biology degree at Hope College in Holland, Michigan and pursued master's and doctorate degrees in biology teaching and educational psychology, respectively, at the University of South Carolina.

Ms. Mercurio holds a bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in Spanish and a master’s of science in education (school psychology) from Butler University, and is a Diplomate in School Neuropsychology. She worked as a school psychologist with the Anderson Community School Corporation from 1997-2005 and previously was a program manager and a crisis counselor/case manager with the Children's Bureau. Mr. Nordby holds a bachelor of science degree in music education from the University of Indianapolis and a master of music performance degree from Ball State University. He has done post-graduate work in bassoon with Leonard Sharrow at Indiana University. He was professor of bassoon at DePauw University for 14 years. He has been a staff member at the International Glickman-Popkin Bassoon Camps since 1983, and is a bassoon repairman specializing in the restoration of older bassoons. He has performed as a freelance musician with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Ft. Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra and the Anderson Symphony since 1976. Before joining Park Tudor, Mr. Nordby was an instrumental music specialist for the Indianapolis Public Schools. He is a member of the Indiana Bandmasters Association and International Double Reed Society.

Mr. Page holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Earlham College. He served as Park Tudor's varsity football coach for 21 years, and also has coached golf and served as an assistant wrestling coach from 1987 to 1991. He also served as dean of students in 1998 and as coordinator of student activities until 1999. He was the sponsor for SADD and the Varsity Club from 1987 to 1999.

Mrs. Salapka holds a B.A. degree in Spanish and international marketing from Butler University and a master's degree in Spanish education from Bowling Green State University. She was a graduate teaching assistant at Bowling Green State. She teaches Spanish in Park Tudor's summer program and also taught Spanish at the International Educational Systems Language Foundation. She served as the program coordinator assistant for the Association of American Programs in Spain. Mrs. Salapka is a member of the Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese and the American Translators Association, as well as Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society. Dr. Sharpless holds a B.A. in English from Princeton University, as well as a master's and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Pennsylvania. University awards included a Mellon Dissertation Fellowship and Award, a commendation and award for distinguished teaching. He was named a University Fellow for Excellence-in-Field while at the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to teaching while at Penn, he has been a visiting and adjunct professor at Butler University, teaching literature, screen writing, and creative writing and serving as the director of the Butler University Creative Writing Camp.

Mrs. Sturman teaches pre-Calculus and calculus. In previous years she also has taught algebra I and II. She has served as a member of the Personnel Practices Committee and has been a faculty advisor for Student Council, Brain Game and the junior class. She serves as President of the Park Tudor Chapter of the Cum Laude Society. She was a board member and former president of the Park Tudor Alumni Association. Following her 1966 graduation from Tudor Hall, she received a B.S. in math with physics and education minors from Michigan State University and has taken additional coursework from Butler and Purdue Universities. She has served as a Culver Summer School counselor for four summers, has received master gardener certification, is a former member of the board of the Phi Beta Kappa Alumni, the Junior League of Indianapolis , the deacons at Second Presbyterian Church and currently serves on the board of the Culver Summer School Alumni Association. Mrs. Sturman's husband, two sons and daughter-in-law are graduates of Park School and Park Tudor and her grandson is currently in JK.

Mrs. Teets holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in photography and a bachelor of art education from Herron School of Art/Indiana University and is working toward her master's degree in art education at Herron School of Art. Along with teaching photography and graphic design, she also teaches Advanced Placement Art History. Mrs. Teets has been working with a team of colleagues from other private schools in the Spoleto Summer Study Abroad Program in Italy for students in the arts, where she has taught photography for the past three years. Because of her work with the Spoleto Program, she also is semi-fluent in Italian. Prior to joining Park Tudor, she taught art in the Zionsville Community Schools for two years. She also has taught photography classes at the Indianapolis Art Center and Herron School of Art Saturday School, and has exhibited her work at galleries in Indianapolis and Dayton. She is included in the 2004-2005 edition of "Who's Who Among America's Teachers."

Mr. Thrush holds B.S. degrees in piano and music education from the University of Indianapolis and a M.M. degree in piano from Butler University. Before his arrival at Park Tudor, he was a pianist/coach for the Indianapolis Opera and pianist/music director at the Indiana Repertory Theatre, where he appeared on both the main stage and in the Cabaret. Mr. Thrush has taught piano at Butler University and at the Renaissance Studios in Broad Ripple. He has served as pianist for the Indianapolis Arts Chorale and the Indianapolis Maennerchor. As soloist, he has appeared with the New World Chamber Orchestra, the Butler University Orchestra, and the Indianapolis Civic Orchestra. Under the direction of former Park Tudor Headmaster Bruce Galbraith, he accompanied the United States Collegiate Choir on three European tours. Mr. Thrush is an avid reader and collector of books and classical CDs.

Miss VanHowe holds a master of arts degree in Spanish with a focus on language acquisition and instruction from the University of Louisville and a B.S. degree in business and marketing from Indiana University. She has five years of language teaching experience, including two at the University of Louisville and two at Anyang Foreign Language High School, a private high school in South Korea. She has also taught in the IU honors program in Mexico. In addition to her teaching experience, she has been an exchange student in Mexico, has spent time in Panama during graduate school, and in her final semester at the University of Louisville was awarded a one-year Fulbright grant to study in Mexico City.

Mr. Williams holds a B.S. degree in music education from the University of Indianapolis. For 21 years he served as director of music at Northminster Presbyterian Church in addition to his teaching responsibilities at Park Tudor. Mr. Williams has served on the Board of Directors of the Indianapolis Opera Company, and performed and directed with the former Starlight Musicals for 12 years. He has been a guest conductor for the Muny Opera in St. Louis, the Kansas City Starlight Musicals, The Atlanta Theatre of the Stars, and the grand opening of the Williams Center for the Performing Arts in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mr. Williams has served as an evaluator for a number of member schools of the Independent Schools Association of the Central States. He also has served as a fine arts consultant for The Latin School in Chicago, Kentucky Country Day School and Cincinnati Country Day School.

Ms. Young holds a B.A. in Spanish and a M.A.E. degree from Ball State University and a Certificate in Translation Studies from Indiana University. She is a veteran Indianapolis Spanish teacher, having previously taught Spanish at Arsenal Technical High School, as well as in the Perry Township School System at Perry Meridian and Southport Middle Schools and Southport High School. She has studied in Monterrey, Mexico at the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores and in Barcelona, Spain at the Instituto Oficial de Idiomas. She has co-sponsored trips for the Park Tudor Spanish AP V students to the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, and in 2007, she accompanied a group of Park Tudor students to Quito, Ecuador with the Timmy Foundation. She has worked in Honduras, Costa Rica, Cuba and Colombia as an interpreter on four mission trips. In 2007, she was named the Walter Hines Page Scholar to Argentina by the English Speaking Union of the United States. She has served as a member of the Butler University Spanish adjunct faculty and is presently a College Board reader of the AP Spanish Language Examination.
