Junior Kindergarten

 Junior Kindergarten

Junior kindergarten is a full-day program for children ages three to five. Classes are divided based on age and developmental level: JK(1) is designed for 3- and 4-year-olds, while JK(2) is designed for 4- and 5-year-olds.

Three- and four-year-olds in JK(1) are just beginning to make the transition from home life into a school setting. At this point in a child’s life, it is important to provide opportunities for exploration and guided discovery.

Four- and five-year-olds in JK(2) are energetic explorers who love new experiences and the social life of school. These young children need hands-on activities and group experiences to help them learn.

Junior Kindergarten Essentials:

  • Flexible arrival time
  • Active and quiet work times
  • Rest and regroup times
  • Learning centers in each classroom: books, art, computers, pretend area, and blocks and shapes
  • Structured activities (physical education, music, computers)
  • Introduction to the Spanish language
  • Outdoor nature lab
  • Family-style lunch that encourages proper table manners
  • Opportunities to help with snack and lunch preparations
  • Monthly community field trips
