Because college admissions requirements vary from school to school, our college counselors can help each student decide which tests are appropriate.
» PSAT – All sophomores and juniors take this preliminary SAT test during a school day in mid-October. Juniors' scores are eligible for the National Merit Scholarship competition and the National Achievement Scholarship competition. Park Tudor registers students for this test.
» PLAN – The school administers this preliminary ACT assessment in January to sophomores. Park Tudor registers students for this test.
» SAT Reasoning – Most students take this test during their junior year, and many seniors take it again in the fall before graduation. Scores for the critical reading, math and writing sections range from 200-800, and the essay is graded on a 12-point scale. Students must register for this test; registration is available at www.collegeboard.org.
» SAT Subject – Students in grades 9-12 may take an SAT Subject test. These one-hour tests cover subjects studied in school and should be taken upon completion of the corresponding course. Up to three tests may be taken in a single day. Students must register for these tests; registration is available at www.collegeboard.org.
» ACT – Like the SAT, many juniors and seniors take this test in preparation for the college application process. This test consists of four sections: English, math, reading, and science reasoning, plus an optional writing section. Scores are reported on a scale of 1-36. Students must register for this test; registration is available at www.actstudent.org.
» AP Exams – Students in Advanced Placement courses take these exams in May, after completing the appropriate course. Scores are reported on a scale of 1-5. College credit or placement is often awarded for scores of 4 and 5. Students register for these exams at Park Tudor in the second semester.
