Visual Arts

Visual Arts

Visual Art Education is an essential part of the basic educational preparation of all Park Tudor students. Artistic discipline allows students the opportunity to explore, express, and create. Participation in and the understanding of visual art may become a lifelong pursuit beyond the formal educational setting.

A program of education in the visual arts, consistent with the philosophy and goals of Park Tudor, recognizes the need to establish a sequence of art studies based on the needs, interests, and abilities of students at all levels of growth. Art is not only an important part of the formal curriculum but is an important tool in the development of a student’s sense of identity and self.

Art is offered for grades 1-6 as a regularly scheduled part of the curriculum. Students in grades 7-8 may take a year-long elective class. Upper School electives are available to students interested in learning more about art and its importance in our lives.

Art Opportunities

Artwork by students in all grades is displayed on campus and around the city. Student work is frequently entered in local and regional contests such as Symphony in Color, Scholastic Art Awards of Central Indiana, and Project eXcel. Students are encouraged to participate in small-group lessons after school and classes at the Indianapolis Art Center and Herron School of Art and Design, as well as summer art programs in the U.S. and Europe. Upper School students are given personal guidance through the college admissions portfolio process.
