  • Congratulations to senior Hank Powell on being selected to participate in the 2008 Super Shootout All-Star basketball team as well as the Andre Owens City-County All-Star game.

  • Darnell Archey named assistant athletic director, basketball coach

Darnell Archey has been named Park Tudor's new assistant athletic director and varsity basketball coach, effective this summer.

Archey, a former Butler University basketball standout and 2003 NCAA Sweet Sixteen player, is currently the varsity boys' basketball head coach and physical education teacher at Columbus North High School. He previously was junior varsity head coach at Carmel High School, where his team won the Hamilton County JV championship.

His impressive basketball credentials include four years as a member of the Butler University men's basketball team (1999-2003), where he was the 2003 NCAA Men's Three Point Champion and still holds the NCAA record for consecutive free throws made of 85. He was named 2003 CBS Chevrolet Player of the Game vs. Louisville* and in the winter of 2004 played with the Harlem Globetrotters. Archey mastered basketball fundamentals as a four-year member of the New Castle High School squad, named second team All-State in 1999. In 2005, he was invited by the NCAA to speak as part of its Stay In Bounds program, talking to 600 Indianapolis area students about being a student/athlete.

He holds a B.S. degree in marketing/business from Butler University and a B.S. degree in physical education from Indiana Wesleyan University.

Many members of the Park Tudor community know Darnell from his previous teaching experience at our school. He was a third grade teaching assistant in Ms. Lori Garloch's classroom during the 2005-2006 school year and worked as a camp counselor in Park Tudor's summer program from 2001-2003.

Head of School Doug Jennings said, "Darnell embodies all of the attributes we were seeking in our search for a head coach. He is truly an exceptional educator and will serve as an excellent role model for our basketball players. A talented teacher of game fundamentals, he also embraces our school's culture and philosophy of developing well-rounded scholar-athletes."

Athletic Director Brad Lennon notes, "Darnell was selected from an impressive list of outstanding candidates and is extremely well respected in the high school and university basketball community. At Columbus North, he has been responsible for rebuilding the program at a school that has an outstanding basketball tradition."

Archey also plans to direct summer basketball camps at Park Tudor, as he has at Columbus North and Carmel High Schools over the past several years.

  • Both the boys and girls lacrosse teams are well into their seasons. The boys stand 3-3 in their campaign, while the girls are coming off impressive wins over Bishop Chatard and Cathedral. • PT senior named Pres. Scholars semifinalist, Academic All-Star

Congratulations to senior Cameron Johnstone for being honored as both a Presidential Scholar semifinalist and an Indiana Academic All-Star.

Cameron has been selected as one of the nearly 560 Presidential Scholar semifinalists to advance to the final round of competition.

From nearly 2.8 million graduating high seniors, approximately 3,000 students were identified as candidates in the program, and only 560 semifinalists have been selected from across the country. These semifinalists form the pool from which the 2008 Presidential Scholars will be chosen.

Cameron also was chosen by the Indianapolis Star as one of 40 Indiana Academic All-Stars. The honorees were selected from 164 nominees based on grade-point averages, standardized test scores, extracurricular activities, community service, leadership and more. Cameron plans to study economics or biology at either Harvard or Yale.
