Fostering Strong Relationships

A low student-to-faculty ratio enables teachers to focus on skills based on students’ developmental needs. Working in teams at each grade level, our faculty strives to provide the best possible education for sixth, seventh and eighth graders. Many Park Tudor Middle School faculty members have advanced degrees, and all have taken additional coursework or workshops to enhance their skills.

Each student is assigned an advisor whose responsibilities include monitoring the student’s academic, social and character development. The advisor is the one teacher in the Middle School who knows the student best and is the primary liaison between home and school.

Curriculum

An interdisciplinary curriculum, using a theme for each grade level, enables students to understand the relationships between and among literature, history, mathematics, science and the arts. The interrelationship among disciplines is highlighted through many activities, which may include multidisciplinary reading and computer assignments, seminar-style discussions, and large- and small-group work. This approach helps students learn to use higher-level thinking skills by applying what they have learned in one discipline to other areas. Varied research projects, such as a 6th grade “Great American” project and an 8th grade “Hot Topics” report, require students to learn good research techniques and solid writing skills.

In addition to the core curriculum, students may choose from a variety of classes in art, theatre, and vocal and instrumental music. Physical education is a requirement, and extracurricular team sports are strongly encouraged.

All students participate in extracurricular activities, serve on a committee of the Student Council, and volunteer in community agencies in the Indianapolis area through the Middle School’s “Panther PAWS” community service program.
