Lerch, Kathryn W. (1990) - Social Studies Department Chair; Upper School Social Studies & German; Upper School Social Studies Curriculum Coordinator

Mrs. Lerch holds a bachelor's degree from Scripps College, a master's degree from the University of Illinois and also attended Exeter College, Oxford. She is listed in "Who's Who of American Teachers" and is a published Civil War historian. She developed and directs the Park Tudor Legacy Initiative history project, for which she has won several awards.

Browning, William L. (1965) - Upper School Social Studies

Mr. Browning teaches U.S. History, Western Civilization, and Economics. He began his Park Tudor career as a teacher at Park School, and for many years taught Middle School geography and history as well as Upper School economics. He holds an A.B. degree from Dartmouth College and a master's degree from Butler University.

A graduate of Park Tudor predecessor Tudor Hall and 2003 recipient of the Park Tudor Distinguished Alumni Award, Mrs. Everett holds a B.A. from Carroll College and M.S.W. from Indiana University. Previous to her current school positions, she served Park Tudor as associate director of admissions and director of communications and alumni relations. She also has been cheerleading sponsor, faculty sponsor of the Sociology Club, co-director of the Middle School productions from 1998-2002, Faculty Annual Fund Liaison, and has served as Park Tudor’s Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS) Evaluation Chair in 1987 and ISACS Evaluation Vice-Chair in 1992. She currently serves on the Park Tudor Alumni Association Board of Directors. Before coming to Park Tudor, Mrs. Everett was associate director of Admissions for Carroll College (WI) and director of volunteers for homebound seniors at the Indianapolis Senior Citizen's Center. She has served on a textbook review committee for a national textbook company and is the author of a workbook, "Doing Sociology." She has collaborated with POLIS Center in a pilot program which engaged high school students as social researchers and is active in various committees, the Chancel Choir and Chamber Ensemble at Northminster Presbyterian Church.

Fumusa, Joseph (1999) - Upper School Social Studies; Upper School Dean of Students; Director of Summer School

Mr. Fumusa holds a bachelor's degree in music and a master of arts in religious studies from Indiana University. He also holds a master of divinity degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, MA, where he was inducted into Phi Alpha Chi Scholastic Honor Society.  At Park Tudor he teaches Upper School ethics as well as serving as dean of students and directing the school’s summer school program. Mr. Fumusa taught English and religious studies at Hamden Hall Country Day School in Hamden, CT from 1990-1999. He was selected for inclusion in "Who's Who of American High School Teachers" in 1994.  While at Hamden Hall he also served as Summer School director, assistant varsity football coach and boys' varsity tennis coach. He also was an adjunct professor at Teikyo University.

Hammock, Chris (1991) - Middle School Social Studies

Mrs. Hammock holds a bachelor of arts degree in education from Ball State and a master's degree in education from Butler. Before coming to Park Tudor, she taught for 10 years at Immaculate Heart of Mary School (Indianapolis). She also has developed curriculum and taught at The Children's Museum and Eiteljorg Museum. While at Park Tudor she has been involved in developing curriculum on Native Americans, experiential learning, and positive self-esteem for young women. She also is a member of the school’s Professional Development Committee.

Janzen, Dr. Eileen R. (1981) - Upper School Social Studies; Model UN

Dr. Janzen received her Ph.D. from Indiana University, M.A. from the University of Toronto, and B.A. from the University of Saskatchewan. She also has attended Radcliffe College, Butler University, Princeton University, St. Andrew's University, Scotland, and participated in a research grant project at Cambridge University, England. Before coming to Park Tudor, she taught history at several independent schools including Dana Hall in Wellesley, MA; The Arlington School, MacLean Hospital in Belmont, MA; The English School in Jerusalem, Israel; and Ladywood-St. Agnes in Indianapolis.

Johnson, Jeffrey R. (1998) - Upper School Social Studies

Mr. Johnson holds a B.A. in history from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, and an M.A. in East Asian studies from Indiana University. Mr. Johnson spent six years in Japan, where he held fellowships at Tenri University in Nara and the Urasenke Institute in Kyoto. He taught U.S. history, world history and English at the University of Oklahoma and at Kansai University of Foreign Studies in Osaka, Japan. Among his awards are a U.S. Title VI Foreign Language and Areas Study Fellowship for 1996-97 and a Fulbright-Hays fellowship to South Africa in the summer of 2001. Mr. Johnson has published several articles, reviews and translations, and he teaches a biannual graduate seminar for Indiana University's East Asian Studies Center. He also is a wrestling and judo coach.

Mr. Kivela holds B.S. and M.A. degrees from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. In addition to his teaching and administrative duties, he is the sponsor of Park Tudor's Brain Game academic quiz team, which won the Brain Game championships in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004. From 1968-1970, Mr. Kivela was a history instructor at Culver Military Academy.

McAlear, Margo (1989) - Upper School Social Studies

Ms. McAlear received a B.A. in history from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, a M.A. in Asian history from New York University, and attended Shanghai University in Shanghai, China, Kyoto University in Kyoto, Japan, and Shreemati Athibai Damodar Thakersui College in Bombay, India. Before joining Park Tudor, Ms. McAlear taught history in several private schools throughout the country, including Immaculate High School in Seattle, WA; Catlin Gabel in Portland, OR; Storm King School in Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY; and Colorado Springs School in Colorado Springs, CO. She and the students in her homeroom volunteer at Coburn Place, a center for women and children who have experienced domestic abuse.

Simmons, Carole (1993) - Grade 6 Social Studies; Middle School Social Studies Curriculum Coordinator; 5th to 6th Grade Transition Coordinator

Mrs. Simmons holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Dayton and a master's in counseling from Indiana University, where she has begun her doctoral work. She previously taught social studies and language arts at Bennett Middle School in Marion, IN. She has additional teaching experience in Memphis, TN, Hamilton, OH and at Nativity School in Indianapolis. She has served as a Student Council advisor and has supervised student teachers.

Whitehead, Courtney (2002) - Middle School Social Studies; Middle School Athletic Coordinator

Mr. Whitehead holds a B.A. degree in secondary social studies education from Purdue University and has attended Goshen College and IUPUI. He previously taught seventh grade social studies at Lowell Middle School, where he also was the assistant varsity basketball coach and eighth grade football coach. He was the recipient of the NCAA National Student Athlete Award at IUPUI in 1998, where he played on the varsity baseball team. At Park Tudor, he is the Middle School Athletic Coordinator and varsity baseball coach.
