Nole, Claudia (1995) - World Language Department Chair, Hilbert Center/Lower School Spanish; Hilbert Center/Lower School World Language Curriculum Coordinator

Ms. Nole holds a bachelor's degree from Bellarmine Ursuline College in Louisville, where she majored in Spanish and minored in English and education. She also holds an endorsement in gifted and talented and educational research from Purdue University. She taught Spanish for 10 years at the Sycamore School (Indianapolis), where she created the Spanish curriculum for preschool through eighth grade. She has traveled extensively and studied Spanish in Spain, Mexico and Ecuador. Ms. Nole is a founding member of the Indiana Network for Early Language Learning and has served as its state vice president and president. She also has served as state president of the Indiana Foreign Language Teachers Association. In 2001 she was selected as IN-NELL's teacher of the year and inducted into the Sociedad Honoraria de Profesores de Espanol. In 2006 she was chosen as the Teacher of the Year for the Indiana Chapter of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese and the K-8 Teacher of the Year for IFLTA. She has worked as a member of the Indiana Department of Education task force to create standards for world language K-8 and K-12.


Dean, Nancy E. (1991) - Upper School Spanish

Mrs. Dean is a graduate of the University of Dayton, and has done graduate work at Wright State University (OH), Butler University, Indiana Wesleyan and at IUPUI. She taught in Ohio, at a bilingual school in Wisconsin, and in Lawrence Township and IPS schools. She was the assistant attache to Mexico for the Pan Am Games and has traveled extensively in Spain, Mexico and Puerto Rico.

Hull, Clifford (1991) - Middle and Upper School Latin

Mr. Hull holds a B.A. in Latin and classical culture, a B.A. (Hons.) in Latin, and a higher education diploma from the University of Stellenbosch (South Africa) as well as three masters' degrees (classical studies, classical archaeology, and library and information science) from Indiana University, where he was awarded the Norman T. Pratt Fellowship. He has been included five times in "Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers," teaches Roman Civilization at Butler University and also teaches Classical Mythology at IUPUI. He has co-authored the book "Latin For Dummies." He also serves on the A.P. Latin development committee which writes the A.P.Latin exams.

Jones, Joanne (2007) - Middle School Spanish

Ms. Jones is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a B.A. in French and a Spanish minor. She has a M.A.T. from Assumption College, Worcester, MA and a certificate with honors in pedagogy from the Alliance Francaise, Paris, France. She has taught for 30 years in both Massachusetts and Indianapolis. In Indianapolis, she taught at North Central High School, Eastwood Middle School, where she started exchange programs with France and Mexico, and IUPUI, where she taught French and Spanish and supervised student teaching. Ms. Jones is a certified mentor and mentor trainer from the state of Massachusetts and is a TESA trainer. In Natucket, MA, she was the K-12 world language department chair and developed the high school mentor program. Additionally, she started the elementary school language program there. Ms. Jones has authored curriculum in elementary language and mentoring.

Kerr, Amy (2002) - Middle School French, Upper School Spanish

Mrs. Kerr holds a B.A. in romance languages DePauw University and has studied in Strasbourg, France and at La Casa de Lenguas, Guatemala. She joined Park Tudor in 2002 as a Lower School teaching assistant and has since taught Upper School French and Lower and Middle School Spanish at Park Tudor. In 2005 she assumed the Lower School Spanish teacher position. She previously served as director of children's ministries at Tabernacle Presbyterian Church. 

Malcom, David B. (1975) - Upper School Spanish; Spanish Club Advisor

Mr. Malcom attended Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine and was a student at the "Sciences Po," the Institut d'Etudes Politiques in Paris where he earned the "Certificat d'Etudes Politiques." Following his studies at Bowdoin, he spent a year in France, earning a master's degree in French from New York University. When Señor Malcom first came to Park Tudor, he taught French, was in charge of the yearbook finances and was an advisor to several classes. From 1979-1981 he was an adjunct faculty member of Butler University as a French teacher. He also was a counselor and later became director of Camp Robin Hood in Sargentville, Maine. Before coming to Park Tudor, he taught French at Phillips Exeter Academy and The Hotchkiss School. He has been a tutor for many years in many areas of the curriculum, including working with students with learning differences. For the past eight years, he has presented a workshop on teaching Spanish to dyslexic students at the Dyslexia Institute of Indiana's annual "Survival Saturday." He also is the Secretary of the Indiana Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese and a member of the "Sociedad Honoraria de Profesores de Español."

 

Regich, Frank (2002) – Hilbert Early Education Center/Lower School Instructor of Spanish

Mr. Regich holds a B.A. degree in Spanish from Indiana University, where he spent his junior year studying in Spain. He spent one year teaching English to Spanish children ages 7-14 and has traveled extensively in Spain for the past 20 years. He was a substitute teacher at Park Tudor before assuming his present position. He previously worked as a reservations sales representative for US Airways.

Salapka, Rachel (2003) - Upper School Spanish

Mrs. Salapka holds a B.A. degree in Spanish and international marketing from Butler University and a master's degree in Spanish education from Bowling Green State University. She has studied at the Universidad de Alcala de Henares in Madrid and the Universidad de Alicante, Spain, and holds a certificate in Spanish/English translation from Indiana University. She was a graduate teaching assistant at Bowling Green State. She teaches Spanish in Park Tudor's summer program and also taught Spanish at the International Educational Systems Language Foundation. She served as the program coordinator assistant for the Association of American Programs in Spain. Mrs. Salapka is a member of the Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese and the American Translators Association, as well as Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society.

Shumate, Carol B. (1979) - Middle School Spanish and French

Mrs. Shumate holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado and a master's degree from Middlebury College and the Sorbonne. Prior to her arrival at Park Tudor, she taught at the Choate-Rosemary Hall School in Wallingford, CT and interned in a stained glass workshop in Kent, CT. In l979, she accepted a position at Park Tudor teaching Advanced Placement art history and assisting in the Upper School library. Currently she teaches French and Spanish in the Middle School. In addition to serving on the Personnel Practices Committee and the Professional Development Committee, she has helped to initiate the Senior Projects program, the Santa Fe field trip, Fine Arts assemblies, and the Middle School foreign language fair. She enjoys volunteering at Global Gifts.

Vote, Janice L. (1993) - Upper School French

Mrs. Vote holds a B.A. in French and a master's degree in secondary education from Indiana University, where she was a Dean's List student. She began her teaching at Center Grove High School in Greenwood and taught part time at Chatard High School and in an adult education program. Mrs. Vote teaches French in the Middle and Upper Schools and sponsors the Upper School French Club. She is co-sponsor of the biennial Middle School Europe trip.

Young, Sheila (2000) - Upper School Spanish

Ms. Young, who holds a B.A. in Spanish and a M.A.E. degree from Ball State University and a Certificate in Translation Studies from Indiana University. She is a veteran Indianapolis Spanish teacher having previously taught Spanish at Arsenal Technical High School, as well as in the Perry Township School System at Perry Meridian and Southport Middle Schools and Southport High School. She has studied in Monterrey, Mexico at the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores and in Barcelona, Spain at the Instituto Oficial de Idiomas. She has co-sponsored trips for the Park Tudor Spanish AP V students to the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, and in 2007, she accompanied a group of Park Tudor students who went to Quito, Ecuador with the Timmy Foundation. She has worked in Honduras, Costa Rica , Cuba and Columbia as an interpreter on two mission trips. In 2007, she was named the Walter Hines Page Scholar to Argentina by the English Speaking Union of the United States. She is a member of the Butler University adjunct faculty and serves as a College Board reader of the AP Spanish Language Examination.
